23 August 2021 - ONLY BY GRACE REFLECTIONS
TOPIC: IS YOUR PIETY PURELY FOR AESTHETICS?
First Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5, 8B-10 Responsorial
Psalm: Psalms 149:1B-2, 3-4, 5-6A AND 9B
Alleluia: John 10:27
Gospel: Matthew 23:13-22
In today’s gospel reading, particularly in Chapter 23, Jesus uses the harsh words, “Woe to you…” seven times in a row to rebuke the scribes and Pharisees. He calls them “blind guides,” “hypocrites,” “whitewashed tombs,” “serpents,” “brood of vipers,” and “murderers.” We reflect today on how we are leading others to Christ and how we are leading ourselves to a real and sincere desire for holiness. This is the 503rd installment of our CFC quarantine contemplation series focusing on the daily liturgical readings.
